proutporut Historique de CHAI-FM

le Mer 23 Juin - 9:54
Québec, Montréal/Laval/Lanaudiére/Laurentides/Montérégie

CHAI-FM (Community), Chateauguay, Radio Communitare de Chateauquay inc.

1980
On March 20, Radio Communautaire de Chateauguay CHAI-MF received a licence for a new French-language community FM station at Chateauguay. It would broadcast on a frequency of 102.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 50 watts. The filing of the application was not completed until after the CRTC's freeze on FM (to allow the CBC time to complete a study on the utilization of frequencies). The Commission decided to consider the application on the basis that a specific frequency would not be assigned until the FM allocation plan was finalized. Departing from the usual restrictions on advertising on community stations, the CRTC has permitted as much as ten minutes per clock hour of conventional advertising on the new station.

The station received permission to move to 101.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 50 watts.

CHAI-FM signed on the air later in the year (target date was September 1). CHAI-FM was funded by the Quebec provincial government. A McMartin FM transmitter was used.

1982
Paul Desruisseaux passed away at age 76. He was a lawyer, senator, and former owner of La Tribune, CHLT-AM-TV and CKTS-AM.

1986
CHAI-FM increased its weekly broadcasting time from 84 to 116 hours.

1993
English-language programming on CHAI was reduced from 15 to 9 hours per week.

2003
On July 9, Radio Communautaire de Châteauguay inc. was given approval to increase the effective radiated power of CHAI-FM from 50 watts to 100 watts.

2006
On September 6, CHAI was authorized to operate a synchronous transmitter in Candiac, operating on 101.9 MHz with average effective radiated power of 47 watts. The new transmitter would enable CHAI to serve most of the population in the territory of the regional county municipality of Roussillon located in the communities of Mercier, Delson, Candiac, Laprairie, St-Constant and Ste-Catherine.

2008
The Candiac synchronous transmitter - CHAI-FM-1 went on the air.
